They will take part in a symposium titled Quantitative and qualitative perspectives on pandemic preparedness: insights from five studies focusing on COVID-19, coordinated by Adriana Solovei (University of Amsterdam).

Olivier Luminet will act as the discussant of the symposium.

Magali Beylat will present: New insights into the relationship between trust in government and COVID-19 vaccination

Research visit by FANNY LALOT (University of Basel) at ULB

November 7–8, 2024

Fanny Lalot is a senior researcher specializing in moral and social behavior, including trust and cooperation. She has notably contributed to a research program assessing changes in societal cohesion in the UK during the pandemic and has published several papers on political trust during this period.

She collaborates with Olivier Klein, Vincent Yzerbyt, and Magali Beylat from our team. Together, they aim to better understand the role of trustworthiness components in vaccination decisions during health crises.

Olivier Luminet convened a symposium on “Lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic to better prepare for future ones”, where Robin Wollast gave a talk on “Sanitary behaviors and mental health”.

Joachim Waterschoot gave a talk on “Why the quality of motivation matters during a pandemic”, as part of the symposium “Building bridges: Closing the gap between behavioural sciences, epidemiology and infectious disease modelling”.

Symposium 'Psychological Science Meets Policy'

From the very first day of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was clear that it would not merely become a physical health crisis. In order to control the spread of the virus, a massive behavioral shift was demanded from the population almost overnight, touching people at their very core: their freedom was drastically curtailed, and their social contacts had to be minimized. It was immediately apparent that this would also become a psychological and motivational crisis.
